How to find books

How do I find a book?

Use Moecat, the Monroe colleges online catalog, to see if we have the book.

Does the Library have ebooks?

Yes.  The library has thousands of eBooks.  Many eBooks can be found in the library's catalog, MoeCat, but the library also subscribes to eBooks on EBSCOhostGale Virtual Reference Library, and Credo Reference.  If you are off campus, you will need to log into MyMonroe

How are the books organized?

Books are assigned letters and numbers, called a "call number,"  which appears in the catalog and also on the spines of books.

This number is kind of like an address: it tells you where to find the book on the shelf.

The letters are in alphabetic order and the numbers run from small to big.

Students may borrow up to 3 books at a time, for 3 weeks each.  You may renew them twice.

You must have your Valid Monroe College ID in order to check out books.

What if I return my books late?

Students are not charged overdue fines. However, if items are not returned by the end of the semester, a Hold will be placed on your account, which will stop you from registering for classes. If the item is returned to the library, the hold will be removed immediately.

Can I return my book to another campus?

Yes.  If you borrow a book from the New Rochelle campus, you can return it at the Bronx campus (and vice versa).

What if the book I need is at the other campus?

We will order the book for you through inter-library mail.  Just ask a librarian. It will takes approximately 24 hours.

What if I am an Alum(na)/(nus)?

Alumni (former students who have graduated and received their degree from Monroe College) may use the library.

* Alumni MUST have a Monroe College Alumni ID card, which can be obtained from the Office of Career Advancement (OCA) on the 4th floor of West Hall (across from Jerome Hall, where the library is located).
